October 1, 2025David Meade returns to Chicago, USA to host and emcee NECA’s annual convention for the sixth time.
NECA's 2025 Convention
David Meade was delighted to return as MC and host of the National Electrical Contractors Association convention in Chicago. Known across the industry as NECA, this annual gathering is one of the most significant events in the global construction and electrical contracting calendar. This year’s convention, held at the vast McCormick Centre, welcomed an extraordinary twelve thousand delegates. It was a scale that reflected the strength, reach, and ambition of the industry. It also marked the sixth consecutive year that David has led the event from the main stage.
NECA’s convention is known for delivering a world class programme that blends high level insight, major industry announcements, technical innovation, and inspiring keynote speakers. This year was no exception. The energy in the McCormick Centre was electric from the moment delegates arrived. With thousands of professionals gathering under one roof, the atmosphere was powerful, focused, and filled with anticipation.
David's Role as Emcee
David’s role as Emcee / MC stretched across the full three days. Over years of partnership, he has become part of the personality of the event. His voice, energy, and pace have helped shape the rhythm of the convention. David works closely with the organisers for many months in advance. That preparation ensures that the programme lands with clarity, cohesion, and momentum.
His ability to join up the narrative of the event has become one of the elements that makes the NECA convention stand out. His responsibilities extended far beyond introducing speakers. David chaired panels, led Q&A sessions, and kept the entire programme aligned. He maintained energy, guided the audience between segments, and ensured that every keynote landed with maximum impact. He also kept the clock tight, enabling the organisers to respond smoothly to unexpected changes or challenges. This level of support is one of the reasons he has become such a trusted partner for the NECA team.
Ayyyy! It’s Henry Winkler
This year delivered some remarkable highlights. The standout keynote speaker was Henry Winkler, the iconic actor and director whose career began on the classic American sitcom Happy Days. Henry brought warmth, humour, and heartfelt reflections that resonated strongly with the audience. His presence created one of the most memorable moments of the entire convention!
An 'All Star' Interview
David also interviewed seven time NBA All Star and two time Olympic gold medallist Scottie Pippen. Scottie shared insights on leadership, resilience, and teamwork, drawing on a career that shaped modern basketball. His appearance was a major hit with delegates and brought an exciting change of pace to the agenda.
When not on stage, David made sure to be visible and present throughout the convention. He walked the trade show floor, spoke with delegates, met exhibitors, and joined the mixers and social events that run alongside the main programme. His approachability and enthusiasm helped reinforce the sense of community that has long defined NECA’s culture.
NECA 2026
Speaking about the experience, David said,
“NECA is a family. The passion, professionalism, and pride that this community brings every year is extraordinary. Being part of this event for six years has been one of the great privileges of my career.”
As soon as the final session ended, planning began for the 2026 convention. It promises to be a landmark year as NECA celebrates its one hundred and twenty fifth anniversary. The event will take place in Las Vegas, a fitting location for an occasion of such significance.
David paid particular thanks to Katie, Pete, Ginger, Beth, David, Stephanie, and the entire NECA team for their partnership. Their preparation, teamwork, and commitment shaped another exceptional convention.
With momentum already building for next year, NECA continues to demonstrate why it remains the leading force in the electrical contracting industry, and why David is so proud to stand alongside them on the journey
