Leadership Keynote for Charles Tennant & Co
March 20, 2026Keynote speaker, David Meade delivers a leadership session for Charles Tennant & Company in Northern Ireland.
Leadership, Performance and Business
David Meade was delighted to work with Charles Tennant & Company in Northern Ireland, delivering a focused leadership session for one of the region’s most established and evolving building materials businesses. Charles Tennant is a long-standing distributor of building supplies, serving customers across construction, manufacturing, and industry. With deep roots in Northern Ireland and a growing portfolio of businesses, the organisation has built a reputation for quality, reliability, and strong customer relationships, while continuing to evolve in response to changing market demands.
While many of David’s events involve audiences of hundreds or even thousands, where he operates as a keynote speaker or MC on a large stage, there are occasions where he is invited to work in a much more intimate setting. This event was one of those moments. It brought together just twelve of the most senior leaders across the Charles Tennant portfolio, including managing directors and CEOs, for a three-hour deep dive into leadership, performance, and the future of the business.
The Session: Engage and Motivate
For David, it was a real privilege to return home to Northern Ireland and work closely with a business that is not only growing but also navigating significant change. The session was designed to support the leadership team as they continue to build momentum while ensuring their people remain engaged, motivated, and aligned with the organisation’s long term vision.
The content focused on three critical areas.
- How to engage and inspire people at every level of the organisation.
- How to motivate teams during periods of change and uncertainty.
- And how leaders can navigate a complex and evolving marketplace while maintaining clarity and purpose.
Drawing on the science and psychology of motivation and mindset, David explored how leaders can create environments where people feel empowered to deliver their best work. He examined how belief, expectation, and leadership behaviour influence performance, and how organisations can encourage discretionary effort that ultimately improves outcomes for customers.
The Goal: Actionable Tools
Every element of the session was grounded in evidence based research. The goal was to provide the leadership team with practical, actionable tools that they could apply immediately within their own businesses. Rather than focusing on theory, the conversation centred on real world application, giving the group clear strategies to support both individual and organisational performance.
The format of the session allowed for open discussion and reflection. With such a small and senior group in the room, there was space for meaningful conversation about the challenges and opportunities facing the business. It created a unique environment where ideas could be shared, tested, and refined in real time.
The gathering also provided an important opportunity for the leadership team to come together and step back from day to day operations. It allowed them to reflect on where the business is today, where it is heading, and the role each leader plays in shaping that future. The focus throughout was on building a culture that not only delivers results now but also attracts and develops the talent needed for the years ahead.
The Impact: Reflection
Reflecting on the experience, David said,
“This is the first time I got the opportunity to work with this team, and I was absolutely blown away by their commitment to innovation, to customers, and most importantly to their people.
Every conversation centred around how they can inspire and engage their people to do the best work of their lives, but also to plan for the future of the business to make sure that they do not just have the right talent today, but they will have it well into the future.”
He added,
“as a keynote speaker and MC, I usually work in very big rooms, but this was such a treat to work at such close quarters. I loved my time with this group of elite leaders, and I hope I get to work with them again soon.”
The session concluded with a strong sense of clarity and direction. With a leadership team committed to growth, innovation, and people, Charles Tennant is well positioned to continue building on its success in the years ahead.
